Is Vertical a replacement for TrainingPeaks Coach Edition?
It depends on what you need. TrainingPeaks Coach Edition is the industry standard for athlete management, analytics, and manual workout delivery. Vertical is built on a different premise: instead of you doing the analysis and writing the plans, Vertical's AI does it. You describe what you want in plain language, and Vertical builds it, schedules it, and adapts it. Think of it as going from manually managing athletes to managing a team of junior AI coaches who handle the grunt work.
How does "querying athlete data in plain language" work?
Instead of filtering dashboards and reading charts, you ask questions directly: "Who has been underperforming their TSS targets this month?" or "Which athletes are ready for a load increase?" Vertical reads all your athlete data and answers in plain language, or flags something you should look at.
Can I create plans for all my athletes at once?
Yes. You can generate individualized training plans for your entire roster simultaneously, compare them side by side before assigning, and let Vertical adapt them automatically as each athlete progresses. No copy-pasting between athlete calendars.
What are "AI sub-coaches"?
Vertical gives you a suite of specialized AI agents: a pacing specialist, a recovery advisor, a race-day planner, and more. When you're working on a specific problem (e.g. an athlete's HR is decoupling badly), you can consult the relevant sub-coach, see its reasoning, and decide whether to apply it. It's like having a group of expert consultants available 24/7.
When is TrainingPeaks Coach Edition still the better choice?
If your athletes are paying for TrainingPeaks Premium themselves and want to own their data long-term, or if you rely heavily on the Plan Marketplace ecosystem and Strava sync, TrainingPeaks Coach Edition remains the most established option. Vertical is the better fit if you're willing to trade some ecosystem breadth for AI-native coaching automation.
Does Vertical work with athletes who use Garmin, COROS or Polar watches?
Yes. Vertical syncs directly with Garmin, COROS and Polar, so your athletes' data flows in automatically regardless of which of those three they wear. It does not currently sync with Strava, so if your roster relies on Strava as the hub, TrainingPeaks' Strava integration is a genuine advantage worth weighing.
What does Vertical cost for coaches?
Vertical for Coaches is in early access. Join the waitlist and we'll reach out with pricing when we open the next cohort.
How does Vertical compare to TrainingPeaks Coach Edition on price?
TrainingPeaks Coach Edition tiers by roster size: roughly $99/month for up to 5 athletes, $149/month for up to 15, and $249/month for 30 or more, per TrainingPeaks' public pricing (June 2026). Vertical for Coaches is in early access; join the waitlist and we'll share pricing when we open the next cohort, along with a clear sense of how the two compare for a roster your size.
Can I migrate my existing athletes and their training history from TrainingPeaks?
You can bring your roster over: each athlete's goals, event calendar, and current training block. It isn't a one-click import of years of PMC history, though. Vertical's models work from an athlete's recent training and what you tell it about them in conversation, not from replaying an old TSS chart. Most coaches find that faster than it sounds, since the context that actually matters (what an athlete is training for and how they're responding right now) is exactly what you'd talk through anyway.
Is Vertical accurate enough to trust with a whole roster?
Every plan Vertical drafts is grounded in the same research library that powers its athlete-facing coaching: 500+ peer-reviewed papers spanning exercise physiology, periodization, and recovery. Independent research on AI-generated training plans has found real accuracy gaps in general-purpose chatbots' coaching output, which is exactly why Vertical pairs the AI with a review step: you approve, Vertical drafts. That's by design, not a limitation we're working around.
